Healthy Snacks: Apples & Almond Butter
August 27, 2015
I have come along way on my quest for healthy all natural nut butter. I started out buying the All natural Jiff brand stuff, because it said it was all natural. Well, turns out it still has a TON of sugar in it. (and lets be honest it still sits on the shelves for x number of months)
But I never liked actual real peanut butter when I had tried it before, because every time I tried it I thought it was missing something. Well it was-the sugar! LOL
But we had a new Whole Foods pop up in town last year and it came equip with some nifty new nut butter grinding machines. You can make FRESH ground honey roasted peanut butter, regular peanut butter, or almond butter. I had always been interested in trying almond butter and I figured I would give it a whirl. Well folks, that was the start. Im officially hooked. I can eat this stuff like candy. Almond butter was a great transition for me into eating the fresh ground no sugar added peanut butter too-because almond butter is on the sweeter side just naturally. After eating that for so many months I ended up trying and actually liking the fresh ground peanut butter too! Its a win win!
Now yes this is more expensive, but its fresh ground-you can't beat that. Its actual nuts-nothing else! And a small container usually runs me $2 or $3 and lasts me a week or a week and a half. I highly recommend just trying a little-its worth the 50 cents or $1 that it will cost you to try a tad! TRUST ME!
Now most nights I crave a snack-especially being pregnant and my go to snack is Apples and Almond Butter-or Peanut Butter, whichever I have on hand actually.
Just slice up an apple (I prefer Pink Lady apples) take a spoon of your nut butter, plate and then start dipping! It craves that sweet tooth and helps you fulfill that "Apple a day keeps the doctor a day" mantra.
Bonus for you 21 day Fixers out there-Totally fix approved. Although don't tell Autumn Calabrese that I slightly overdo it on the "spoon" portion when it comes to my nut butters. Shhhhhhhhhhhhh
